Free Family Moon Landing Celebration

Looking at the new church, you can tell that St. Paul's is closely connected to the space program. So the 40th anniversary of the first moon landing is a cause for celebration. The nearby University of Houston at Clear Lake is holding a free family celebration -- "Fly Me To The Moon: A Community Celebration of the First Lunar Landing" to recapture the magic of that special day. Bring your kids on July 18th at 6:00pm for a family-style picnic, an outdoor viewing of the moon landing on a giant inflatable screen, and stargazing with telescopes.

The Parent Trap

This article by Bill Doherty about parenting in the June US Catholic is a must-read for all parents. I'm forwarding it to our child and youth ministers to see how to get this to parents. The thing I most like about it is that it takes the reasonable middle road. It confronts the consumeristic, permissive style of parenting without reverting to reactionary authoritarianism.

Marriage Publication: Must Read

The State Of Our Unions 2006, recently released by Rutgers University, is a must read for married people, clergy, ministers, and family advocates of all stripes. It does a great job of?framing?the context in which the Church advocates for Family and Marriage in American society today.
