ECP SUGGESTION FOR LENT
Helping others is an important social skill to learn in early childhood. The season that celebrates Christ's sacrifice is the perfect time to put this lesson into action. Encourage your child to help perform small tasks that they normally would not do. Organizing the shoe closet, clearing the table, reading with a younger sibling or wiping down countertops are all excellent examples of helping others in the house.
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED NOW! "Will You Not Watch One Hour With Me?" Matthew 26:40
40 Days for Life Kicks Off
40 Days for Life is a nationwide effort organized by the Coalition for Life directed at enabling participants to bring the healing mercy of God’s love and peace to abortion facilities throughout the U.S. Locally, peaceful prayer vigils are taking place every day and every hour of Lent at the Planned Parenthood office located at 3601 Fannin St. Cardinal DiNardo is asking parishioners at every church in this diocese to participate. Specifically, St. Paul’s is sponsoring Saturday, March 27 as its day of prayer at this center. Please contact our Respect Life coordinators, Ed and Michelle Haren at edharen@yahoo.com for more information.
Please remember to follow the Archdiocesan guidelines for prayer at an abotion facility. For more information go to www.HoustonCoalition.com.
*Mass for Hearing Impaired*
As a parish, St. Paul’s staff and volunteers work to minister to all people, regardless of their needs. If you or someone you know would benefit from having Mass interpreted in sign language, we are pleased to offer that ministry. Please contact Heidi Clark at 281.333.3891 ext. 328 to make specific arrangements.
Additionally, we are pleased to offer personal assistive listening devices to individuals who struggle to hear the Mass. Please see the Sound Board Technician prior to Mass to obtain one of these devices.
REGISTRATION TIME IS HERE
Registration forms are going home with students this week. The registration fee is $60.00 per child. Every child currently in the program is guaranteed a spot for next year (2010-2011). Parents will have until Feb. 14th to turn in forms and fees. Registration will begin for parishioners and the community on Monday, Feb. 15th, starting at 10 a.m. in room 13.
Can you sponsor a child?
Economic hardships have struck our St. Paul’s ECP family. Right now we have more children on scholarship than ever before in the fifteen year history of this program. We are asking families to sponsor a scholarship. There are several ways that this can be done. You can sponsor a half-year tuition, monthly tuition, or donate any amount that you can afford. If you are interested in donating please stop by room 13 to talk to either Christie or Jill. We are asking for your help because it is truly needed. Thank you as always for your support.
MAKE A TIME CAPSULE
You’ll need a coffe can or large shoe box, paper, markers, tape and assorted items to commemorate your family. First decorate your container, label it; 1/11/2011 and Do Not Open Until…. Next, fill it with items that your family finds fun and interesting. These could be sports medals, birthday cards, pictures and favorite toys. You might want to put in notes about each family member and your hopes for the new year. Lastly, tape it closed and put it in a secure location.
EARLY BIRD
An optional one hour before school program called Early Bird exists for those parents who would like their children to attend. This extends the school day from 8:30 to 1:30. Cost is $5.00 per day. For more information, stop by the Early Childhood Office.
Classes resume this week on Jan. 4, 2010. We look forward to seeing all our friends back from their holiday.
We currently have openings in a few of our classes. Please call the ECP office at 281.333.0176 for more information.
ROUTINES
Most young children thrive on routines. Knowing what to expect helps them feel safe and secure. Routines also promotes responsibility. Once a child is completely familiar with his routine, he can begin to perform it independently.
As your child gets older and more responsible, you can include more steps in each routine. To get started, have your child follow routines for:
• Getting up. Use the bathroom, wash hands, and get dressed.
• Getting ready for bed. Get undressed, take a bath, put pajamas on and brush teeth. Don’t forget to read a story.
• Meals
